DYNAMO FC LIFT GREGORY IMAFIDON CUP

The 2nd Edition of Gregory imafidon foundation under 15 boys tournament may have come and gone, the memories will linger on for a long time to come.

The South South youth soccer carnival organise by the federation of Youth soccer clubs(feysoc) an affiliate of the Nigeria football federation, sponsored by Mr Gregory imafidon, started August 24th 2018, in Benin city.

The event which had teams from the South South of Nigeria came to a close on August 31 at the university of Benin sports complex with a lot of funfair.

Earlier at about 1pm, the fans were entertained with the third place final,, involving Unique fc, Edo state and great Avengers fc of Delta state. The match however ended on penalties, with the Edo team Unique fc taking the bronze after  5-4 on Penalties.|The main final was also decided on penalties after full time score stood at 2-2 between Dynamo fc Benin city and ine stars fc Benin city.

Dynamo fc however won 5-4 to become the first team to lift the tourney for the south south edition.

The university of Benin sports complex was fill to capacity, with some ex footballers present to support their own Gregory imafidon. They include former super Eagles captain and coach Austin Eguavoen, his elder brother Monday Eguavoen aka Teacher, Isaac uzamere otata one who has been of a great support for the program, 1985 under 17 world cup winner, ex super Eagles and the current chief coach of Bendel insurance fc, Baldwin Bazuaye,   europe base ex Bendel insurance defender, omoruyi odiase, Bendel insurance assistant coach Gregory ikhenoba, SP Saturday okao (rtd) Agbons Erhabor, odion bello, Charles Ahimie,Amowie Joseph, Andrew Adoeye,Edoghogho Edionhon, osasere obazee,Raphael Asemota, Eghosa oviahon, ugiagbe ufumwen, Timothy Edomwande, amongst others.

At the end of the match, tournament sponsor Gregory imafidon, president Gregory imafidon foundation said the annual competition is being organised to contribute towards the development of youth sports in Edo state with the ultimate aim of reducing the high rate of crime among youths. The ex footballer and graduate of the university of Benin now based in the United states, said Gregory imafidon foundation was created with the ultimate goal of engaging the youth meaningful, empowering the youths through skill acquisition, creating health care awareness, assisting the less privileged and to promote Educational advancement for the youths

Imafidon thanked the organisers feysoc and all those who have contributed to the success of the event, both home and abroad

The soft speaking imafidon, however use the occasion to appeal to the state government, traditional institutions and well meaning Edo sons and daughters home and abroad to support the foundation and help take the youths of the streets.

There were medal presentation to the referees, third place winner, runner up and the overall champion. The best goalkeeper, defender, midfielder, top scorer, MVP, coach,  fair play team, outstanding player were also rewarded with cash and gift items.

The high point of the day was  the presentation of scholarship given to two deserving players, Efe ogiagbe of ine stars fc Benin city and Emeka utomi of unique fc, Benin city.

Third place winner unique fc got #70.000, while runner up ine stars fc Benin city received the sum of #100.000, for their effort and the overall champion Dynamo fc Benin city got #150.000.

Speaking to newsmen after the presentation of medals, cash, gifts and trophy,  Gregory imafidon said plans are under way for the tournament to be upgraded a national event in 2019.
